$163.030 - $210.361 - $257.692The stated pay scale reflects the range that Sharp reasonably expects to pay for this position. The actual pay rate and pay grade for this position will be dependent on a variety of factors, including an applicant's years of experience, unique skills and abilities, education, alignment with similar internal candidates, marketplace factors, other requirements for the position, and employer business practices.
What You Will Do
This position is accountable for the operating results and continued growth of Sharp Grossmont Hospital. The hospital COO is responsible for assuring the highest quality of patient care and professional services, optimal utilization of the facilities, development of successful physician relationships, and the achievement of established financial objectives of the hospital. Insures quality improvement, staff empowerment, customer satisfaction, and market competitiveness of program and services. This position is subject to broad policy and general executive guidance, within an overall strategic framework.
Required Qualifications
- Master's Degree in Hospital Administration, Business Administration, or other closely related field or equivalent.
- 10 Or More Years progressive experience in hospital administration and management.
Essential Functions
- Quality
Develops and implements policies and procedures which insure patient safety; assures that all regulatory requirements, including Joint Commission standards, are met.
Translates strategic initiatives into actions to meet or exceed objectives, including increased profitability.
Creates an environment where innovation and research are evident as well as an interdisciplinary approach to patient care.
Assures the organization is in a constant state of Regulatory readiness.
Assures that policies and procedures are appropriately interpreted, understood and administered by all management staff who report directly to the COO.
Responsible for patient relationships including insuring that hospital and ambulatory operations are conducted in a manner which provides the highest satisfaction to the patients while, at the same time, are cost effective, safe, and efficient.
Routinely undertakes activities which demonstrate - through financial, satisfaction and quality outcomes - progressive improvement in all patient care operations.
Insures that all operation in areas of responsibility are conducted in a manner which promotes the most efficient use of human, plan, and fiscal resources.
Collaborates with the Chief Medical Officer to assure that operations in the hospital and clinics are integrated and provide for a smooth continuum of care for its patients.
Advocates for the integration of all Sharp Grossmont Hospital information systems to the extent possible in order to assure a seamless patient care experience. - Finance
Working with the CEO and the CFO, develops and implements the annual operating budget; assures that all revenue and expense budgets and goals are met each year in the organization.
Works with the CFO to develop the organization's annual and long range capital plan.
Oversees management staff directly reporting to the COO to assure that they are well-trained and well-versed in financial management. - Service
Using the results of the patient satisfaction survey develops annual plans which identify projects which will have the most impact on continually improving patient satisfaction. Includes appropriate physician, employee and management staff in project teams.
Responsible for the overall strategy and oversight of the implementation of all electronic information systems at Grossmont Hospital, including implementation of the electronic health record.
Works closely and collaboratively with the Chief Medical Officer to develop a comprehensive and effective clinical efficient program which maximizes patient safety, minimizes costs and assures a high level of quality for patient care.
Works closely with the clinical chairs to develop appropriate clinical programs which assure the mission is met and maximize margins. - People
Conducts operations in such a manner that facilitates decision -making, supports the institutional strategic direction, and assures that the institution is market competitive to recruit and retain the highest caliber of employees.
Establishes goals and objectives annually for staff who report directly to the COO and provides annual, or more frequent, written feedback regarding their personal and organizational performance.
Encourages collaborative teamwork that supports multi-disciplinary patient care and efficient operations.
Assures that the management team works collaboratively toward common strategic goals and is committee to the mission and values of Sharp Healthcare.
Services as a mentor to those who report directly tot the COO, providing regular staff meetings, opportunities for feedback and opportunities to learn how to become a more effective manager.
Establishes clear and appropriate management competencies for all management staff in areas of responsibility including responsibilities for cost containment, meeting revenue and expense budgets being in a constant state of Joint Commission readiness, reviewing policies and procedures on a regular basis, holding staff meetings, providing opportunities for staff to learn and grow with their position and support the institutional direction and mission. - Growth
With the CEO and other members of the Executive Council, provides leadership by developing and implementing the institutional strategic plan.
Provides leadership to those who work directly for the COO in developing and implementing annual goals, objectives and strategies which fulfill its mission, increase quality, improve efficiency, improve margins, and assure exemplary customer service.
Responsible for the overall strategy, business and operational planning, and market growth of Sharp Grossmont Hospital service lines, which include: oncology, orthopedics, neurosciences, behavior, women's and heart and vascular.
Assures that the services lines provide integrated and coordinated care that is efficient, effective and safe, and also receives high satisfaction scores from the patients and staff. - Safety
Promotes the Sharp HealthCare Patient Safety Program and achieves improvements in safety reporting and reductions in safety events including Culture of Safety survey response rates and use of the survey results in improvement efforts.
Achieves ongoing improvements in the reduction of hospital acquired infections including the hand hygiene program.
Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities
- Requires the ability to build and negotiate collaborative relationships; a comprehensive understanding of hospital functions, standards, policies and applicable state, federal and auditing agency regulations; demonstrated experience in developing and implementing new systems, programs techniques, and/or procedures; and a successful track record in achieve financial goals and objectives.
