What's the role

Shell Polymers Monaca is a state-of-the-art Petrochemical facility located in Western Pennsylvania.  The facility has completed commissioning and startup activities and is now in "run and maintain".  The overall mission of the Electrical Engineering Team is to deliver world class asset care strategies for the Site electrical equipment and systems, to ensure integrity, safety, and reliability at a competitive cost.

As an Electrical Specialist, you provide technical and maintenance support for operations, maintenance, and engineering for electrical equipment. You will also work to improve electrical equipment reliability via investigation of failures, determination of root causes and completion of corrective actions. You shall be proactive in creating and maintaining an appropriate level of communications with Shell Polymers Monaca Site organizations to ensure proper support is provided for electrical maintenance and turnaround activities. You shall keep abreast of the latest technology in electrical systems and equipment and play a key role in the training of Shell Polymers Monaca personnel in operation and maintenance of new equipment.

Also, you will be reporting to Electrical Engineering Manager.

Accountabilities:

  • Main role and accountability are providing inspection, reviews, and technical assurance to assigned process unit

  • Provide technical support and troubleshooting for electrical equipment in assigned area. Collaborate with unit electrical engineer on electrical issues, short term, and long-term unit electrical planning

  • Complete and/or review monthly electrical inspections for unit, review and approve isolations and/or medium risk permits, write work notifications as required for equipment malfunctions

  • Resource to maintenance for PMs, PM testing, third party testing, review of test data

  • Create, review, & execute electrical switching procedures

  • Perform periodic QA inspections with I&E Technicians work, vendor/third party work

  • Provide feedback on third party electrical contractor performance

  • Ensure electrical BOMs and electrical drawings are up to date for assigned unit

  • Work closely with other Electrical, Mechanical, and Instrument Specialists, and as needed with Pressure Equipment Integrity Specialists

  • Collaborate with electrical planners and turnaround planners and team to review electrical turnaround scopes; prepare scopes for large turnaround electrical outages and substation PMs.  Review test results with testing company and with unit electrical engineer. Prepare turnaround job book and properly preserve job book and test data

  • Work closely with electrical contractors to ensure that industry and Shell Polymers Monaca Site standards are being adhered to and that skill levels meet the needs for performing the assigned work

  • Maintain and keep up to date required training

    • Site specific training

    • CBT / SOU required training

    • As required by the electrical team, which includes, but not limited to: CPR, First Aid, NFPA 70E, etc.

  • Technical Resource and instructor to I&E Technicians

  • Revise, modify, create electrical procedures and drawings as required

  • Perform routine electrical safety audits throughout the site

  • Assist other run and maintain inspectors and engineers in outages, electrical incidents as required

  • Site focal point for electric heat trace support

What we need from you

  • Must have legal authorization to work in the US on a full-time basis for anyone other than current employer

  • You must have at least 3 years of experience as an I&E Technician, inspector and / or specialist

  • Bachelor's/ associate's degree preferred or relevant experience

  • Strong mentoring capabilities

  • Working knowledge of electrical theory

  • Experience in an office environment

  • Skilled in electrical inspection techniques

  • Knowledge of how a Refinery and Chemical facility operates

  • Good written and oral communication skills - ability to present complex information in a way that can be understood by a range of audiences

  • Knowledgeable in GSAP

  • NFPA 70E/ 70B

  • NEC

  • OSHA 1910

  • Strong Analytical and problem-solving experience

  • Ability to multi-task

  • A leader in personal, electrical, and process safety

  • Understanding of the MOC process and HSSE initiatives

  • High level of commitment to Diversity, Inclusiveness, and employee development

  • Knowledge of Electrical Equipment standards

  • Customer Relation Skills

  • Knowledgeable in Electrical Safety, Hazardous Areas and Explosion Proof Equipment, Electrical System Design and Modification, Electrical System and Control, Electrical Standards, Electrical Equipment Selection, Electrical Drawings, Electrical Construction and Commissioning, Electrical Maintenance

The base salary range for this position is $101,000.00 - $151,000.00 per year.  Individual pay will be based on various factors, such as relevant work experience, education, certifications, skill level, seniority, and internal equity.  

For regular full-time or regular part-time employees of the Company (participating companies as listed in the Summary Plan Description), insurance coverage options include medical, dental, vision coverage, life Insurance, Business Travel Accident Insurance, and Occupational Accidental Death Benefit programs. Employees also participate in a company pension plan and a 401(k) plan. Paid leave includes up to 6 weeks of paid vacation time, up to 11 paid holidays, and parental leave offering 16 weeks of paid leave to birthing mothers, and 8 weeks of paid leave for non-birthing parents.

Additionally, employees are eligible for disability leave for up to 52 weeks at 100% or 50% of base pay. Shell also offers other compensation such financial reimbursement for adoption, wellness, education, and personal learning expenses, and some roles are eligible for discretionary long-term incentives. For interns, eligible benefits include medical, dental, and vision coverage, life insurance, Business Travel Accident Insurance, and Occupational Accidental Death Benefit programs; participation in a 401(k) plan; and paid leave for up to 11 paid holidays.
