Wespath, recognized as a 2017-2024 Chicago’s Best and Brightest Companies to Work For® and a 2018-2024 National Best and Brightest Companies to Work For®, has an opportunity for a Manager-Sustainable Investment Stewardship (SIS) that helps lead design, development and implementation of Wespath’s Sustainable Investment Stewardship program, which focuses on engaging and advocating for the adoption of public and corporate policies promoting more sustainable business practices that align with the long-term economic interest of Wespath’s underlying participants and institutional investors.

More specifically, as a Manager-SIS you will:

  • Collaborate with the Managing Director-SIS, Director-SIS, Chief Investment Officer and other members of Investments to design, develop and implement elements of Wespath’s Sustainable Investment Stewardship program.
  • Lead high-profile engagements with corporations, asset managers, and public policy makers to advocate for positive changes that align with Wespath’s long-term economic interests and United Methodist Church values.
  • Actively participate in and selectively lead relationship management/development with colleague members of investment coalitions
  • Help drive integration of material sustainable investment (SI) risk consideration into Wespath’s investment selection and decision-making process, led by the Investment Management (IM) team.
  • Conduct leading-edge research of SI issues and keep abreast of sustainable investment trends to develop position papers, guidelines and communications supporting Wespath’s strategies.
  • Support engagement with different UMC stakeholders.
  • Support client retention and development efforts of Wespath’s Institutional Investment Services team.
  • Lead development of forward-looking strategy Wespath’s work on social issues, developing and leading implementation of strategic plan.
  • Apply experience and provide guidance that supports the SIS team in administering Wespath’s proxy voting activities, ensuring that Wespath’s votes align with its proxy voting guidelines and support long-term value creation.

Manager – Sustainable Investment Stewardship Compensation and Benefits:

  • Hybrid working arrangement.
  • The compensation range for this position is $145,000 - $160,000 with a bonus opportunity and customary benefits. Final compensation will be set based on the hired applicant’s qualifications (education, training, and/or experience related to this role), and as such, may fall outside the range shown.

Minimum Requirements/Qualifications:

  • Bachelor’s degree in finance, economics, business, accounting or equivalent work experience.
  • 6+ years of related professional work experience, including a focus on economic-related issues.
  • Strong understanding of economics and a personal interest in financial markets and sustainable investment integration.
  • Demonstrated ability to build a network of peers within the professional industries, including major industry partners.
  • Willingness to learn about United Methodist Church (UMC) and to work in support of UMC Social Principles through engagement.

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Experience in sustainable investment integration.
  • Financial qualifications, including MBA or Chartered Financial Analyst (CFA) designation.
