Job Description:
The Patient Service Associate is an integral part of the Patient Care Team at Dawson Hall Dermatology. The PSA coordinates and participates in a variety of duties associated with daily clinic preparation process, patient identification, patient check-in/out, charge posting, cash management and patient appointment scheduling. Position also involves customer service, message distribution, ancillary scheduling and referral management.
The Patient Service Associate is expected to follow all regulatory and compliance policies; responsible for living Duke's values and demonstrating expected behaviors, while contributing to create a positive patient experience and building a positive work environment. The PSA will maintain a professional image in appearance and over the phone and contributes to ensuring the registration desk and waiting areas safeguard patient privacy, confidentiality and safety and are well maintained and clean.
Work Performed:
Prepare for clinic visits by reviewing next day patients and associated activities; Registering patients for appointments, correctly identifying patient details - approved Photo ID and utilizing a minimum of 2 approved patient identifiers;responsible for identification and documentation of any special needs (language, mobility or other ADA identified needs), demographic and insurance updates. The PSA must ensure all financial and compliance related documents are completed and documented, check-in, check -out, point of service collections (deductible, copay, coinsurance, and balances), referral and order management, appointment coordination/scheduling, work queue management, MyChart enrollment and cash management according to established policies and procedures with Cosmetic and General Dermatology patient visits. Accurate payment collections based on visit types for accurate account balancing.Present/educate patients on financial, compliance, authorization forms to obtain all necessary signatures as required per policy. (COA/COT, MSPQ, ABN, and Self-Administered Drugs.)Accurately label, scan, and document to medical records for retention. Modify communication to ensure patient understanding if necessary. Occasionally, the PSA may be asked to float to other Dermatology clinics for coverage needs.
Knowledge, Skills and Abilities
Strong verbal and written communication. Basic PC and data entry skills. Knowledge of basic medical terminology and telephone etiquette. Demonstrate ability to organize and prioritize work, provide oral and written instructions, interact tactfully with patients; establish and maintain effective relationships with others. Must be able to apply specific departmental policies rules and regulations related to verify patient information, collecting payments and maintaining records and forms.
