Job Summary

The Project Manager for the Office of Stations will plan, direct, and control the development of conceptual, preliminary, and final design construction schedules, equipment procurement, and budgets as they relate to Office of Stations' projects. The Project Manager will also assist with feasibility planning of Stations projects and define project resources relating to personnel and financing for the Office of Stations in the areas of Facilities and Structures.

Duties & Responsibilities

  • Coordinating, working with, and securing commitments from various departments within the Authority
  • Coordinating the allocation of force account personnel needed to support the Office of Stations department.
  • Managing consultant activities and ensuring consultant and contractor performance follows the scope of work
  • Addressing large groups as well as handling potentially sensitive situations with contractors. 
  • Oversee the MBTA Office of Stations system specification development bid process and installation
  • Prepare quarterly project updates and monthly reports for Mass DOT
  • Respond to public questions concerning the projects
  • Review contract proposals, schedules, and bids
  • Supervise current project activities and develop strategies and plans to correct deficiencies as they occur on a project
  • Assist in the preparation of project budgets, the Stations budget, and the revision of such budgets, as necessary
  • Prepare and review change orders, balance and excess forms, and staff summaries
  • Prepare technical evaluations
  • Attend and conduct job meetings
  • Drive a company or personal vehicle to visit work sites and/or transport crews or equipment as needed.
  • Respond to each inquiry, whether from a customer, vendor, consultant, or co-worker in a courteous and professional manner consistent with the Authority's customer service quality standard
  • Respond, either directly or through others, to emergencies twenty-four (24) hours per day, seven (7) days per week
  • Uphold the rights and interests of the Authority while building and maintaining an effective relationship with employees
  • Assist in the management of a workforce by ensuring the fair and consistent application and strict adherence to the rules, regulations, collective bargaining agreements (if applicable) and policies of the Authority including the EEO, Anti-Discrimination and Anti-Harassment and Anti-Retaliation policies
  • Perform all other duties and projects that may be assigned
Supervision  
  • Supervision of construction staff 

Minimum Requirements & Qualifications

  • A Bachelor's degree in Engineering, Construction Management, Architecture, Urban Planning, Public Administration, Business, or a related field from an accredited institution.
  • Five (5) years of experience in the planning, design, and management of major construction projects, involving the design and construction of rail track systems
  • One (1) year of experience supervising the planning, design and management of major construction projects and construction staff related experience in a supervisory capacity
  • Effective organizational, multi-tasking, time management, interpersonal and analytical skills
  • The ability to use Word, Excel, PowerPoint, or Database applications
  • Effectively communicate with regulatory agencies, community organizations and others on technical and sensitive matters; have excellent customer service, conflict resolution, negotiation, presentation, communication and writing skills
  • Have a valid driver's license
  • Have the ability to supervise and work effectively with a diverse workforce

Substitutions Include

  • A High School Diploma or GED with an additional seven (7) years of directly related experience substitutes for the Bachelor's degree requirement
  • An Associate's degree from an accredited institution an additional three (3) years of directly related experience substitutes for the Bachelor's degree requirement
  • A Master's degree in a related subject substitutes for two (2) years of general experience. 
Preferred Experience and Skills
  • Five (5) years of experience with the design, installation, or maintenance of rail track systems within the Massachusetts transit industry

  • Have a satisfactory work record for the two (2) years immediately prior to the closing date of this posting (unless if recent graduate), including overall employment, job performance, discipline, and safety records (infractions and/or offenses occurring after the closing of the posting and before the filling of a vacancy may preclude a candidate from consideration for selection)
  • Ability to pass a Criminal Offender Record Information (CORI) check, comprehensive background screening, and medical Clinic screening, potentially including a physical examination and drug and alcohol screenings
  • Ability to work all shifts and / or locations assigned, directed, or necessary for this position, including (for some transit / operations roles) up to twenty-four (24) hours per day, seven (7) days per week as necessary to accommodate severe weather conditions, emergencies, or any other circumstances that may potentially impact service or the safety of service
