Software Engineers perform development work across the technology stack (both front-end/back-end expertise). They are versatile in how they can add value, demonstrating the ability to manage the completion of projects that involve databases, backend services, or the development of front-end applications. They should be able to demonstrate a strong understanding of emerging technologies to support the development of new solutions. Software Engineers understand the full technology stack and underlying applications, services, and databases in order to ensure optimal performance.

Software Engineers are responsible for designing, developing, and implementing complex enterprise software solutions. Individuals in this role collaborate closely with technical and non-technical roles such as data modelers, architects, business analysts, data stewards, and subject matter experts (SMEs) to provide design, technical analysis, development/configuration, testing, implementation, and support expertise representing the interest of the business across the enterprise. In this role, individuals participate in and lead design sessions and provide leadership for ongoing development efforts on various projects.

The Software Engineer is responsible for the design, development, configuration, testing, implementation, and ongoing maintenance of Costco’s Integrated IT Management platform (ServiceNow aka “CARTS”); provide analysis of problems while working toward solutions to technical issues; deploy new releases and/or enhancements; maintain and support the platform’s operational functions; and perform system and integration testing. This person will provide platform configuration and customization assistance including, but not limited to: gathering requirements from stakeholders and writing user stories, workflow administration, report setup, data imports, custom scripting, and third-party software integrations. A successful candidate will be flexible and willing to learn and assist in different areas of our team, as well as, possess a sense of urgency and adapt to changing priorities.

ROLE

● Ensures compliance with data privacy regulations by managing Data Subject Requests (DSRs) efficiently and accurately, and maintains the organization's Records of Processing Activities (ROPA) to provide a comprehensive overview of data processing operations.

● Develops or prototypes software modules at various levels of complexity, including but not limited to: service interfaces, process flows, service messages, SOA components, business logic, UI/UX, or data access logic.

● Develops efficient code in various development languages for enhancements and bug fixes.

● Designs, develops, tests, and deploys software solutions and process flows complying with standards, guidelines, and best practices.

● Executes against project plans and delivers assignments within scope, schedule, and budget.

● Creates, executes, and evaluates unit/integration tests.

● Identifies, assesses, and formulates architectural impacts and solutions from business requirements.

● Provides daily support of the ServiceNow platform; including script development, configuration, integration, and administration.

● Adopts and adapts to newly approved technologies, programming languages, tools, and standards.

● Collaborates to ensure application designs utilize appropriate patterns and standards.

● Creates and maintains API and data integration processes between ServiceNow and other services.

● Analyzes user needs and software requirements to determine feasibility of design within time and cost constraints, including the ability to estimate work needed.

● Assesses and documents functional and nonfunctional requirements and creates designs to meet both business and technical needs.

● Creates conceptual and detailed technical design documents.

● Provides implementation expertise contributing to rollback, post install, data migration, and other artifacts as required including creation of support plans.

● Adheres to security management practices and promotes established security standards.

● Identifies and resolves problems, often anticipating issues before they occur or before they grow, develops and evaluates options, and implements solutions.

● Participates in design and code reviews.

● Responds to requests and provides incident resolution.

● Creates process documentation for the team and provides internal training to team members.

● Understands and adheres to Costco’s Mission Statement and Code of Ethics.

● Collaborates with team members (e.g., Systems Architects, Systems Analysts) to define project specifications and release documentation for all phases of the product development cycle from product definition to design, through implementation.

● Conducts peer code reviews for the software changes made by other engineers within a team.

REQUIRED

● 3 years’ minimum development experience using JavaScript.

● 2 years’ experience with web technologies including API's/CSS/XML/HTML/ReST/WebServices. working knowledge of JavaScript frameworks such as Angular.js, jQuery, or Jelly.

● Experience with modern JavaScript as well as ES5 and below.

● Firm understanding of prototype-based object-oriented programming concepts.

● Firm understanding of the MVC framework

● Experience with the SDLC including Requirements Analysis, Design, Installation, Development, Testing (application code and user acceptance), and Deployment.

● Working knowledge of source code management tools.

● Ability to communicate technical information in business terms.

● Ability to work independently and multi-task.

● Ability to independently plan deliverables and coordinate with team-members.

● Excellent troubleshooting skills and the ability to logically think through problem situations.

● Excellent verbal and written communication skills.

● Prior experience mentoring and providing technical leadership.

● Scheduling flexibility to meet the needs of the business including weekends, holidays, and 24/7 on call responsibilities on a rotational basis.

● Experience as a ServiceNow Administrator, Developer, Implementation Specialist Certified, and/or ServiceNow Admin (Advanced).

Recommended

● Experience working as a contributing member on an Agile Scrum based Delivery Team.

● Experience with Jasmine or other JavaScript unit testing frameworks

● Working knowledge of software design patterns.

● Working knowledge of test automation frameworks such as: ServiceNow ATF, Selenium or Cucumber.

● Demonstrated project work of advanced ServiceNow development using Orchestration or Discovery.

● Exposure to ITIL concepts.

● Proficient in Google Workspace applications, including Sheets, Docs, Slides, and Gmail.

Level 1 - $85,000 - $110,000

Level 2 - $105,000 - $135,000

Level 3 - $130,000 - $160,000

Level Sr - $150,000 - $190,000, Bonus and Restricted Stock Unit (RSU) eligible

Level Staff - $180,000 - $225,000, Bonus and Restricted Stock Unit (RSU) eligible
